Mormon Rules on Food – Is Coffee Ice Cream okay?

In Blog by Alice0 Comments

Depending on who you ask, you’ll get a lot of different opinions and interpretations on whether certain foods are suitable to be consumed by Mormons. At the end of the day, the decision is subjective to the individual and it depends how strict you choose to be with your religion and your own interpretation of the rules and regulations of mormonism.

One of the main reasons that I’m writing this post is that I intended to make coffee ice cream, until one of my friends who’s a Mormon said they’d have to skip it. It slipped my mind completely that coffee ice cream might not be allowed for Mormons!

There are a few foods which are specifically mentioned that are definite no’s, definite yes’s and potential maybes. So, let’s run down some of the foods and whether they can be consumed by Mormons.

Why are Mormons teetotal in general?

There are a few reasons why Mormons are teetotal, which might seem kind of weird when you compare them to their ancestors, which most definitely weren’t teetotal. But, this is part of the reason for the increase in mormonism as we know it.

Since the early 1900s, Mormons have taken a strict approach on alcohol. This is likely due to the damage that they could see happening to those that consumed alcohol at the time, so it’s no surprise that they ensure that their people avoided it.

Alcohol and other drugd can be extremely addictive, so it’s no surprise that the intention is to help Mormoms avoid falling into temptation and addiction. These rules can help mormons avoid bad experiences, although this might not fit in with what is the current norm.

Conclusion

Overall, these are just some of the consequences of the mormon words of wisdom. This helps to improve the life of those that follow this intense religion, which is common throuhgout the United States. Although it might seem strange to some, it isn’t much different to other religions which practice abstinence, except it’s a little more extreme.
